A short story about us
We are a family-owned, small business that values quality and commitment. Head Bladesmith Joe founded the shop with the support of his wife, Sara, in 2024 after about a year of planning. Together they have three wonderful kids; Robert, Carri, and A.J. (Tato).
Who we are...
How we started...
The newest member of the shop, A.J., was born in 2023. While taking time off from work to help Sara recover and to bond with A.J., Joe began watching the History Channel's hit TV show, Forged in Fire. Joe and A.J. spent many hours day after day watching, learning, and planning how they could do it themselves. In December of that year, Sara believed enough in Joe to send him to an introduction to bladesmithing class. It was all over after that. Joe was hooked, and knew he needed to start his own shop. Joe started on his first knife on his back deck with a charcoal grill for a forge, a rotary tool, and a woodworking belt sander. This humble shop was the inspiration for our name today. Just as from humble beginnings come mighty things, from Humble Beginnings Custom Knives come high quality, gorgeous pieces that blend art and functionality.

Custom Knife Options
Here are a few of the many different options for designing your own custom knife. More choices may be available, so please contact us to discuss anything you don't see here!
Blade Style
This is the general style of blade that you are wanting. From hunting knives, machetes, swords, axes, cleavers, chef's knives, and more, we can make just about anything you could ever want!
Tang Style
The tang is the connection between the handle material and the blade. Choosing the right type is important to ensure your custom knife performs how you expect it to!
The most important consideration in designing a custom knife is the type of steel. Different types are more desirable than others due to hardness, weight, corrosion resistance, and other factors!
